AUGUST 3: SHOHOLA FALLS TRAILS END

JULY 13: PRIVATE EVENT (Spurge Fest)

The Blue Meanies have been performing at Spurge Fest since 1804, when American sea captain Richard Henry O'Brien and his men were released from captivity in Algiers. Upon returning to the U.S, O'Brien celebrated his new-found freedom by hosting the very first Spurge Fest, a riotous, hijinx- and music-filled event named after Mediterranean spurge, a plant O'Brien had discovered during his Algerian captivity. O'Brien hired an early version of the Blue Meanies — the Azure Brutish Boys — to perform at the initial Spurge Fest, and they've been invited back every year since then. The Azure Brutish Boys changed their name to the Blue Brutes in 1874 and — finally — to the Blue Meanies in 1919, just after the Great War.

DETAILS: It really doesn't matter, unless you happen to be attending this private event.

JULY 27: PRIVATE EVENT (Pancake Lake)

This summer, the Blue Meanies will return to the serene, bucolic surroundings of Pancake Lake. Ah, yes, who can forget those endless summers at Pancake Lake? As youths, we carefree Meanies looked out on the lake; it impressed us like a tarn high up on the side of a mountain, its bottom far above the surface of other lakes, and, as the sun arose, we saw it throwing off its nightly clothing of mist, and here and there by degrees, while the mists, like ghosts, were stealthily withdrawing in every direction into the woods, as at the breaking up of some nocturnal conventicler. The very dew seemed to hang upon the trees later into the day than usual, as on the sides of mountains. At least that's how we remember it!
DETAILS: It really doesn't matter, unless you happen to be attending this private event.
